Photography
Photography and video of the exhibits and collections at any of the premises of the Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council Heritage Services is permitted under the following conditions:
- The photography is for private purposes only

- Photography of temporary exhibitions and objects and works of art on loan to (SMBC) Heritage Services is not allowed. Works of art, which were created within the last 70 years, may not be photographed since SMBC does not always hold the copyright for these items.
- Flash photography for still photos is only permitted with built in flash units contained within the camera. Stand-alone or add-on flash units along with other additional lighting sources (including all built-in lights on video cameras) are not permitted except with written permission obtained in advance from the relevant institution.
- No bulky equipment, trailing flexes or inflammable materials are allowed. Tripods, which may be a hazard to others, will only be permitted at quiet times.
- Care must be taken not collide with display items, display cases or other visitors when taking a photo. Photographers must not move around whilst using video cameras.
- The copyright in any and all photographic images shall become the property of Stockport Council and the negatives (or master copies in the case of video recordings) shall be surrendered to Stockport Council if so requested.
- Use of such images for any purposes other than for private research or record, in particular for any purposes that would provide financial gain, shall not be undertaken without a separate licence from Stockport Council.
To take photos or to film within the museum you must fill out a photography agreement form, this can be obtained at reception on your arrival at the museum.
